As funding to PetroCaribe – the preferential payment program through which CARICOM, Cuba and a handful of Central American nations purchased the majority of their oil – started to decrease, Caribbean nations realized they had to diversify their sources of energy in order to sustain their development. This renewed need for energy alternatives found its match in the United States’ increased output of natural gas. In a classic and almost literal case of supply meets demand, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden received Caribbean leaders in Washington DC in January 2015 to discuss the newly created Caribbean Energy Security Initiative (CESI), offering affordable natural gas and encouraging a transition to renewable energy. In April of the same year, President Barack Obama paid Jamaica a rare visit to cement the energy initiative. As American tourism returns to the embargoed state, many expect ripple out effects for other Caribbean nations as the region enjoys the global spotlight. To look further than the CESI deals, several countries in the Caribbean, such as Jamaica, The Bahamas and Barbados, started to develop renewable energy projects including solar and offshore wind. A Long-Awaited Recovery Having taken a hit during and after the 2008 financial crisis, the financial services and tourism sectors have come back to a healthier level as the global economy recovered and tourists with disposable income returned to the region. Already a major tourism destination for the North American market, the Caribbean is increasingly welcoming visitors from South Asia and China, a trend that should only accelerate once its airports are210-260 iins If you want to pass your ICND1, ICND2 or CCNA exam on the first try, it is essential you have a sound, effective study plan that is proven and other Cisco CCNA students have followed to successfully pass their 200-120, 101-101, or 200-101 tests.
